Writing Program Director Elected to National Organization

Linda Adler-Kassner, professor of Writing Studies and director of the Writing Program, was elected to the post of assistant chair of the Conference on College Composition and Communication. This puts her in line to become chair of CCCC, the field’s largest disciplinary organizations, with more than 5,000 members.

Adler-Kassner will serve as conference chair of the 2016 conference. She will then succeed to the post of associate chair, chair, and past chair.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to serve the profession at such a critical moment,” Adler-Kassner said. “Now more than ever, the question of what students learn in college writing classes, as well as how that learning should be assessed, is in the public eye.”

Part of her plan for serving in CCC is to communicate with individuals and groups who are influencing policies about writing by “listening, building alliances, and taking action.” Adler-Kassner’s term of service begins in late November 2014.

Adler-Kassner is the author and co-author of several books, including The Activist WPA: Changing Stories about Writing and Writers, which won the Best Book Award from the Council of Writing Program Administrators. She is also the co-author of Reframing Writing Assessment to Improve Teaching and Learning.”

Currently, Adler-Kassner and Elizabeth Wardle are working on Naming What We Know: Threshold Concepts and Composition Studies. The book will be published by Utah State University Press in April 2015.
