Congratualtions to Catt Phan, the recipeint of the inaugural Ellen Reid Writing Award ($1500). The Ellen Reid Award is given each year to support a UCSB student pursuing a carreer that involves writing or publishing. Catt is a fourth year Global Studies major with a Professional Writing Minor in the Civic Engagement Track. Born in Vietnam and raised in Fountain Valley, CA, Catt understands the importance of being a global citizen, which has inspired her career and lifestyle goals. After immigrating to the United States with her family in 1999, she fell in love with writing as she learned English and wants to work in the non-profit sector or as a political speech writer after getting her Master's in Public Policy. At UCSB she debates for her school's award winning Model United Nation's club, mentors first year students in the Cultural Mentorship Program, and works at the non-profit Just Communities as a Sarah McCune Endowed Public Affairs Intern.
