Jeffrey Hanson leads UCSB staff workshop

Writing Program and EMS lecturer Jeffrey Hanson will be leading a workshop on "Getting Your Message Heard to Achieve Desired Results" for UCSB staff on July 13, 2016 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Corwin Pavillion. The workshop is part of the Gaucho Growth series: three exciting lecture sessions, delivered by accomplished speakers, open to all staff

The workshop focuses on an engaging story-based approach for delivering oral presentations on nearly any topic. While this approach is adaptable for each audience, purpose, and length, the workshop will focus primarily on the preparation phase of shorter multimedia presentations that inform or seek support from a broader audience. Join us for some hands-on experience and an interactive discussion of a practical 5-step plan for crafting your next oral presentation.

Jeffrey Hanson has been teaching various forms of written and oral communication to grads and undergrads at UCSB and three universities abroad for the past 26 years. He has also given hundreds of professional presentations in 8 countries. His straight-forward ideas draw upon key elements of effective communication and the work of contemporary pathfinders like Nancy Duarte (Resonate), Garr Reynolds (Presentation Zen) and Jean-luc Doumont (Trees, Maps, and Theorems). A companion website, with links to these and other helpful resources, will be available to workshop participants.

Participants should bring paper, a pen, and one specific presentation topic—past, future, or hypothetical—to work with during the workshop. Just a one-sentence summary of the topic would be fine.
