Cissy Ross, Writing Program lecturer, was recently the recipient of a
2013 Ally Award by UCSB Resource Center for Sexual and Gender
Diversity.

            The annual awards honor individuals, organizations and
departments who have made positive contributions to the lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender and queer community (LGBTQ).

            She was nominated by Minh Nguyen, her former student in
journalism writing, who stated that Dr. Ross "has been among the top
educators who have impacted my life." He commended her for helping
all students feel comfortable in her classes and continuing to take
an interest in their academic progress after students leave her
class.
