Call for applications: CCS/Writing Program Writing and Literature

UCSB seeks applicants for an LSOE or LPSOE (a security of employment or pre-security of employment lecturer track position with primary emphasis on teaching) for a joint appointment split 50/50 between the College of Creative Studies and the Writing Program of the College of Letters and Science. The College of Creative Studies (http://www.ccs.ucsb.edu) is an innovative small college that offers eight majors for high-achieving students who are committed to a focused program of study and the creation of new knowledge through research and creative activities. A proposal to revise the existing literature major (which is still under review) would provide students the opportunity to study writing and literature from a variety of perspectives, combining creative writing, writing studies and literary study. The UCSB Writing Program (www.writing.ucsb.edu) is a collegial, highly collaborative award-winning program within the College of Letters and Science focusing on study of and practice with writing. The Program includes lower and upper division writing courses, a professional writing minor, and a Ph.D. emphasis in writing studies.

Primary responsibilities of the LSOE or LPSOE involve contributing to the administration of the CCS major, teaching classes in CCS and the Writing Program, advising students, and working with faculty from participating campus departments. Preferred applicants will have a Ph.D. or MFA, and demonstrated expertise in writing studies, literature, rhetoric and writing, or related fields and experience teaching courses in writing studies, writing or literature. Prior higher education administrative experience is desirable.

Applicants should submit a letter detailing experience and areas of academic interest, a current CV, three letters of reference, a statement of teaching and a sample syllabus and assignments for an innovative course they have taught or program they have administered. Additional materials may be requested at a later date. Application materials should be submitted online at:  https://recruit.ap.ucsb.edu/apply/JPF00406 Inquiries may be directed to Jo Little, Assistant Dean, CCS:  jo.little@ccs.ucsb.edu

We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through teaching and service. Please apply by December 31, 2014 for primary consideration for a July 1, 2015 begin date; the position will remain open until filled.
