...Michael Petracca teaches Writing 105CN (Creative Nonfiction) and Writing 121 (Advanced Creative Nonfiction), along with 109ED (Research Writing for Teachers), 109SS (Writing for the Social Sciences), and 50 (Writing and the Research Process). His research and writing interests include creative writing across the curriculum, memoir and other creative nonfictional subgenres, traditional Asian short-form poetry, creative writing instructional pedagogy, computers (specifically hypertext) in the academic research process, and the use of popular culture artifacts as topics of inquiry in the composition classroom. Publications include: The Graceful Lie: a method for making fiction; Common Culture, a reader/textbook on popular culture, co-authored with Madeleine Sorapure; two novels, Doctor Syntax and Captain Zzyzx; a writing across the curriculum text, Academic Communities/Disciplinary Conventions, co-authored with Bonnie Beedles; along with extensive creative nonfiction, short stories, tanka, haiku, renga, and articles on interpreting the products of popular culture.
