Online Waiting Lists for Writing Program Courses
The Writing Program is moving to an online wait list system. Please visit http://waitlist.ucsb.edu AFTER NOVEMBER 9 and register for one or more of the waitlists for writing courses.
This is a new campus initiative and while signing up does not give you a better chance of enrolling in the course, we would appreciate your help to see if the system works.
Be sure to attend class on the first day in order to be considered for enrollment. Since there are extreme pressures on enrollment in all writing courses, instructors must assume that students who fail to attend the first class are no longer interested in enrollment, and no-shows (whether already enrolled or on a wait list) are likely to be dropped from the class. If a serious emergency prevents you from attending the first class, make every effort to alert the instructor before the first class day.
"Crashing" Courses and Add Code Policy
Please note that Writing Program instructors do not receive add codes until the first day of the term. In no cases will instructors be able to e-mail students add codes before the beginning of instruction; therefore, you are requested not to e-mail course instructors with solicitations for add codes.
Writing Program policy requires that students who do NOT enroll in a particular Writing Program course through GOLD attend the first day of class--whether to hold a place on the online wait list described above or to sign up on a waiting list provided in class by the instructor. Both the online wait lists and the instructor-generated lists are checked for prerequisites and class standing."Crashing" Steps:
- Look on GOLD to see what classes are being offered.
- Use the new online wait list for a course or courses of interest to you (see above).
- Attend the first day of class to confirm your place on the waitlist. Remember that prerequisites must be screened for each individual student on the list.
- Return to the second day of lecture, when add codes will be distributed by the instructor. On some occasions the wait list decisions will be made on the third or even the fourth day of class.
- Please do not ask the Undergraduate Advisor for add codes! These can only be given by the instructor in class!
