Common Problems and Their Solutions

  • Why do I have a registration block from the Writing Program?
  • You are blocked because you haven't yet taken Writing 2. You must take Writing 2 by the end of your Sophmore year. Call the Writing Program at 805.893.2613 to have the block removed.

  • What do I do if the class I need to take is full?
  • Writing Program classes are impacted. Never count on successfully crashing a Writing Program class. After the quarter begins you should try crashing as many classes as you can. Writing Program instructors have add codes they can give at their discretion if spots become available. The Writing Program office does not distribute add codes.

  • When is the next Advanced Writing Placement Exam(AWPE) offered? What if I miss it? Do I have to take it?
  • Click AWPE in the menu at the top for more info. In short: it is offered near the beginning of every quarter; if you miss it you can take it next quarter, there are no make up exams, and everyone must take it.

  • Is there any way to test out of Writing 2, Writing 50, or Writing 109?
  • No. ALL students must take Writing 2 and either Writing 50 or Writing 109 to satisfy area A1 and A2 of the General Education requirements.

  • Can I take any Writing class P/NP?
  • No.
